blue :: of returning to first loves

Amazonite was the first 'semi-precious' stone I came across as a beader. And it became my first love. Over time, the list of favourites has grown..., exceptionally long. It does not 'shrink', nor is replaced. But as some new gem comes into view, it gets its moment in time.

I still love Amazonite. With the varying shades of blue. From a strong robin blue to the baby boy blue variety. I don't quite judge which is more 'precious' in the gem trade but I go with the heart. I feel that each stone has its own intrinsic beauty.

A couple of days ago I laid eyes on a strand of lovely carved Amazonite roses. I had to grab them and they dutifully followed me home. I first made them into these earrings. Strung on handforged earwires, they dangle with a lil 'tail' at back for an added design flair.

And today, on the spur of the moment, here's a matching ring to go with it. I personally feel that these amazonite roses go best with 925 silver. Hence, in my idiosyncratic beader way, I am not making 14K gold filled versions.

Now available in store; Blushing Blue Loves (ring) and Blushing Blue Roses (earrings).

Phew. That was quite a picture laden entry. Love affairs are so hard to explain in words!

daddy's girl

Last Saturday we went for our week 34 check up to see baby girl. Daddy was quite full with the prospect of having a girl and harboured serious dreams of her being the typical ‘daddy’s girl’. So here’s 2 new items in store (loaded over the weekend!).

Both are unabashedly pink. Unabashedly feminine for the quintessential “daddy’s girl”. She may grow up with time but the lil girl still remains.

the weekend is near!

We have restocked the shop with new items. Majority are in 925 silver so there is a slight premium. But we believe what you pay is what you get. There are still quite a number of items priced under SGD 20 (62 to be exact!) so take your pick. Sometimes, a little reward is what you need for a long week at work.

** Pictured above is our latest addition!

A petite piece measuring in at just 1cm, it is perhaps one way to bottle up your memories of the beach holiday and bring them everywhere with you. All findings used are 925 silver or bali silver.

Spring :: A Mini Series

Spring is officially here…! Yes, even at Sparkle Thots where we don’t really follow the ’seasons’. A small collection of spring themed earrings will be up in store soon. So do watch for them.

Above is Spring Bells. Dainty pink Czech glass flowers sit atop white Czech beads. A soft feminine look, perfect for adding just a hint of colour to your outfit.

Too ’sweet’? Well, you can always try Spring Leaves instead! AB lustre finished Czech glass leaves drape atop white Czech beads for a bit of a back to nature look.

Or go luxe with Refreshed! A gorgeous petite cluster drop of apatite, peridot and clear quartz just bring to mind the refreshing spray a well spring brings. Made entirely with 925 silver findings, this pair measures in at a dainty 1cm drop, excluding earhooks.

So which would you choose?

green with envy

Faceted Prasiolite Marquis Briolettes

Yummy! I had this for a while, maybe a month (?!) but just could not get the right photo. In the end, I gave up and set it aside. Now I broke into the stash to do up this piece.

One of a kind.

This piece features a single prasiolite drop with wire detailing handwrapped to turn it into a pendant. Total drop is approximately 2 cm long. Gold plated chain is approximately 16 inches long and closes with a lobster clasp. Faceting and reflection of light on this is really beautiful. :)

And now, to figure out what else to do with the rest of the loot!

This piece is NOT yet listed in store but will be shortly. Hopefully by the end of today. Meantime, if you are interested, do drop me an email.

daisy chains

Hello! It’s Monday and I’m back. With more than I expected. I was thinking of taking a short break from crafting but I couldn’t keep away from them. So up till late last night, I was busy twisting and twirling wires at my workstation.

I must say I absolutely adore the results. Simple, elegant necklaces to adorn the necks of mothers and daughters! I do hope to list them soon. But if you cannot wait, drop me a line and tell me which you’d like. I am most likely to list them in sets.

This particular piece, Daisy Chains, features freshwater pearls in two different shapes (flowers and ‘nuggets’). Stranded on gold plated chains, they are pretty and elegant. Simple enough for everyday wear and everything else in between.

It was made in tribute to all mothers. And the children that they groom and whom they sacrifice so much. It reminds me of the ‘traditional’ daisy chains that mothers teach their children to weave. I like the idea of interaction taking place!

Hope you had a great Mother’s day with your mum and / or children.
